Guide to Boundaries

We’ve officially transitioned to Fall…

A transition can be exciting but it’s a disruption of routine, and a disruption always involves an adaptation. You have to change, and you have to grow. In other words, a transition is work. The process can be uncomfortable and overwhelming — but specific strategies can help you navigate it successfully.

That’s why we decided to focus on boundaries in September. It’s all about deciding what kind of life you really want...and then saying no to everything that isn't that. How does that sound? There are two essential pieces to this plan. Firstly, we need to look deep with ourselves to determine our vision for our lives. Then we need to work with ourselves and the people in our lives to set boundaries that allow us to realize that vision.

Aware: The Science and Practice of Presence, by Dr. Dan Siegel teaches readers how to harness the power of the principle "Where attention goes, neural firing flows, and neural connection grows." In his book, Siegel reveals how developing a Wheel of Awareness focuses attention, opens awareness, and cultivates kind intentions that can literally help you grow a healthier brain while reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in your life.

Dr. Siegel is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and the founding co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center at UCLA. An award-winning educator, psychotherapist and author, Dr. Seigel focuses on how the development of mindsight in individuals, families and communities can be enhanced by examining the interface of human relationships and basic biological processes.
